In addition, there is the possibility of combining the procedure with a relaxing vacation in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Gastric bypass requirements
The gastric bypass surgery procedure begins when the patient arrives at the clinic. Before the procedure, a comprehensive medical examination, including blood tests, ECG and imaging, is carried out to confirm the patient's suitability. This is followed by a detailed consultation with the surgeon to discuss the surgical plan.
On the day of the operation, the patient is placed under general anesthesia. The surgeon usually uses minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques to reduce the size of the stomach and divert part of the intestine. This restricts food intake and reduces nutrient absorption. The procedure usually takes 2-4 hours.
After the operation, the patient is cared for in a monitored recovery room and then transferred to the ward. Close medical monitoring and the introduction of a liquid diet are carried out over the following days. After discharge, the patient receives detailed aftercare instructions, including dietary plans and medical check-ups, to ensure a successful recovery.
Gastric bypass food volume after 1 year
Gastric bypass changes life in many ways, especially when it comes to nutrition. After a year, the body is used to the new amount and intake of food, and patients can often enjoy normal but smaller portions.
Typical amount of food after one year:
- Portion sizeMeals usually consist of 150-250 grams per portion. This depends on individual tolerance and the type of food.
- Nutrient densityThe focus is on protein-rich foods such as lean meat, fish, eggs or plant-based protein sources.
- Several small mealsInstead of three large meals, most patients eat five to six smaller meals a day.
- Eat slowlyChewing thoroughly and eating slowly remain important to avoid discomfort.
Important notes:
- Avoid drinksNo drinks should be consumed during meals to support the feeling of satiety.
- Vitamin and nutrient supplementationSupplementation is still essential due to the reduced amount of food.
- Regular aftercare: Medical appointments and nutritional advice help to stay healthy in the long term.
One year after gastric bypass, eating behavior is often stable, which supports both weight reduction and a healthy diet.
Gastric bypass costs
The cost of gastric bypass surgery can vary depending on the country, clinic and individual requirements. They often include services such as preliminary examinations, the operation itself, the hospital stay and aftercare. In some cases, additional costs such as travel expenses or long-term aftercare may be added.
Whether the health insurance company will cover the costs depends on the medical necessity and the individual situation. A gastric bypass is an important decision and should be weighed up carefully - both in terms of the costs and the health benefits.
